Guest Book Review: Yarn Girls’ Guide
The last in our special series while i'm spending some time with myfamily; Tracy P, Pokeystackle on Ravelry, does us the honor of reviewing The Yarn Girls’ Guide to Simple Knits from Potter Craft, now out in paperback!
By Julie Carles and Jordana Jacobs
2002 Clarkson Potter, 160 pages
There are lots of you out there who love chunky/bulky yarns but never know what to do with them. Or maybe you are one of those who yearn to knit a sweater but just don’t want to be working on it for the next year–this book is great for everyone from first-time knitters to instant-gratification knitters.
The Yarn Girls' Guide… starts out with all the basics: cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, bind off, even a little on crocheting an edge and finishing techniques (all illustrated). And the authors include some information on gauge, yarn weight, and picking yarns (all helpful).
The styles are relatively simple, but with the right yarn could be exciting and create wardrobe staples. My only beef…this is not a plus size friendly book. The biggest size is Large. A little explanation on how to adjust for sizes would have been helpful.
