Class: Hitchhiker Gradient Shawl with Liz Avery at our studio on November 12, 2016 2:00-5:00pm
The pattern Hitchhiker by Martina Behm is one of the most popular patterns on Ravelry we've ever seen, and with good reason. Its supple garter stitch, wrapability, and toothy edge has us smitten, too, and we've been knitting it up in gradients ever since! Liz will provide essential tips and show you how to use Knitcircus gradients to their best effect. A gradient cake looks amazing by itself, but she'll also show you how to pair a gradient cake with a kettle-dyed yarn to amazing effect.
Required prerequisites: Adventurous beginners are welcome: must be comfortable with knit, purl, cast on and bind off. All other skills will be taught.
Materials needed: 575 yards of fingering weight yarn (see below for options), ring stitch markers, and a 32" or 40" circular needle in US size 4, 5, or 6 (if you'd like to bring at least a couple of these sizes we will determine the best needle size for you in class together). Students must purchase and print out the Hitchhiker pattern from Ravelry.com before class OR purchase the pattern in-store from Knitcircus! Stop in early before class to purchase your pattern in our studio, and we can print it out for you if you purchase it through us. (Please remember to respect the designer's intellectual property and do not copy the pattern unless you're copying your own purchased pattern for personal use.)
Liz suggests these two yarn options:
575 yards of fingering weight yarn in a solid, variegated or striping yarn. OR
300 yards of fingering weight yarn in a solid paired with 300 yards of a gradient yarn.
Liz is knitting hers out of a 100g (400 yd) kettle-dyed yarn paired with a Knitcircus gradient medium sized sock set.
If you are purchasing yarn from Knitcircus on the day of your class, please stop in about 30 minutes before class begins so that we can wind your yarn if needed.
