Frons Cowl by Hilary Smith Callis
Hilary, aka The Yarniad, is one of our favorite designers. Here, she's created an heirloom lacy tube with a clever twist. Knit one up quickly in DK weight, and you've got a lovely cowl. We recommend picking out a 100g/250yd cake of our Divine DK in a gradient, a semi-solid, or a speckled skein. Makes a lovely gift! Check here for ready-to-ship kits using this pattern.
"Frons (Latin for foliage) is a quick, single-skein cowl with a pretty, leafy, allover lace pattern. The cowl is knit in the round from end to end and twisted before the two ends are joined. The lace pattern is a simple, rhythmic 4-row repeat – it knits up in no time and creates a very pretty little cowl that you’ll want in every color."--from the designer
Specific yarn requirements:
250 yds/ 230 m of DK weight yarn
US 5 (3.75 mm) needles preferred for working a small circumference in the round (e.g. 16”/ 40 cm long circular, dpns, circular long enough for Magic Loop, etc.), or size needed to obtain gauge
Second circular needle or dpns of same size
22 sts & 29 rows = 4”/ 10 cm in Stockinette st, blocked
18 sts & 27 rows = 4”/ 10 cm in lace pattern, blocked
Meeting these exact gauges is not crucial, but any major differences will affect the size of the finished cowl as well as yardage required.
These patterns are printed in booklet form on high-quality, heavy-duty paper with color photographs.
