Launched in 1928, Mickey Mouse is Disney’s most iconic character and mascot: a lighthearted, enthusiastic everyman who never gives up and is always willing to help his many friends. Usually dressed in red shorts with white buttons, white gloves encasing three fingers and a thumb, and yellow shoes, Mickey is one of the most recognizable characters around the world, often appearing alongside his fashionable sweetheart Minnie, recognizable by her polka dot skirt and big red bow. Appearing together in the first cartoon to feature synchronized sound, Steamboat Willie (1928), Mickey went on to appear in over 130 films, including Brave Little Tailor (1938) and Fantasia (1940). In 1978, Mickey became the first cartoon character to receive his very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with Minnie following in 2018.
